Karuah RSL Sub-Branch Celebrates 80 Years of Service

Eight Decades of Mateship and Service

On Saturday, 18 July, members of the Karuah RSL Sub-Branch gathered at Karuah & District RSL Club to celebrate a truly remarkable milestone – 80 years since the formation of the Sub-Branch. In place of their regular monthly meeting, members came together to reflect on eight decades of service, mateship and unwavering support for veterans, serving personnel and their families.

Today, the Sub-Branch boasts more than 100 members drawn from Karuah, Tea Gardens, Lemon Tree Passage and the surrounding communities, a testament to the enduring relevance and strength of the local RSL movement.

Honouring Those Who Served

Sub-Branch President Scott Beaumont addressed members with a reflection on the history of the RSL movement, paying tribute to the proud contribution of local servicemen and women who have served in every conflict from the Boer War through to current operations. He also drew attention to the Club’s impressive collection of military memorabilia, uniforms and artefacts – a curated record of the stories of those who served and sacrificed.

A highlight of the celebration was the cutting of the anniversary cake using a Vietnam War bayonet – a deeply symbolic gesture carried out by Karuah and District RSL Club President Samantha Brock and RSL Life Member, Vietnam veteran, Past Club President and Past Sub-Branch President Peter Fidden. It was a moment that connected the club’s present leadership with its living history.

Congratulations to the Karuah RSL Sub-Branch and everyone involved in reaching this significant milestone. Here’s to continuing the important work of supporting veterans, their families and the local community for many years to come.
